Canadian Public Accountability Board appoints new director Sophia Tsui

TORONTO, August 18, 2023 – The Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB), Canada’s public company audit regulator, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophia Tsui, CPA, CA, as director.

“As Canada’s independent, national audit regulator for accounting firms that audit public companies, CPAB contributes to public confidence in the integrity of financial reporting,” said Benita Warmbold, Chair of CPAB’s Board of Directors. “Sophia’s extensive experience overseeing risk in the Canadian and global capital markets will be an asset to CPAB’s board. On behalf of the board, I welcome Sophia to CPAB.”

Sophia Tsui brings over 30 years of experience in audit and risk management, as well as executive leadership, to her role on CPAB’s board. Ms. Tsui is Chief Risk Officer for HSBC Bank Canada, where she has also held the role of Chief Auditor. During her career at HSBC, Ms. Tsui has worked in Canada as well as the UK, where she was the Global Head of Risk Governance and Risk Appetite for HSBC Holdings PLC. In 2018, Ms. Tsui was named one of the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. Ms. Tsui lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

CPAB’s board of directors ranges from a minimum of nine to a maximum of 11 members (there are currently 10 directors) all appointed by the Council of Governors. The majority must be non-accounting professionals and at least two directors must have regulatory or regulatory/audit oversight experience.
