Canadian Public Accountability Board appoints new director Don G. Chynoweth

TORONTO, August 27, 2020 – The Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB), Canada’s public company audit regulator, is pleased to announce the appointment of Don G. Chynoweth as director.

“On behalf of the board, it is my pleasure to welcome Don to this role,” said Benita Warmbold, CPAB Chair. “Don brings a depth and range of broad leadership and governance experience across public and private sectors in Canada and internationally. We look forward to his contributions as we continue to drive improvements in the quality and consistency of Canadian public company audits.”

Chynoweth is a senior executive with significant governance experience in the commodities, agriculture, energy transmission, healthcare, defense and insurance industries. He previously served on several public and non-profit boards including Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (now Nutrien) and AltaLink Inc. (now Berkshire Hathaway Energy). Chynoweth is currently on the boards of the Alberta Blue Cross and Hospice Calgary, is a member of the Calgary Airport Authority Business Advisory Council and is the Executive Co-Chair of the Institute of Corporate Directors - Calgary Chapter. He is also the former Chair, Infrastructure of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

CPAB’s board of directors ranges from a minimum of nine to a maximum of 11 members (there are currently 10 directors) all appointed by the Council of Governors. The majority must be nonaccounting professionals and at least two directors must have regulatory or regulatory/audit oversight experience.
